An ex-expat celebrates Bastille Day in Sacramento

Who says you can’t enjoy fine food, French music and films, and handsome waiters when you’re out of France for the national holiday? For “enfants de la patrie” and anyone who just enjoys a good crêpe, Downtown Sacramento puts on a charming celebration featuring a Waiters’ Race, generous samples from neighborhood restaurants, photo booths, music, and movie screenings. Competitors in the race gear up in bowties, aprons, and curled mustaches before balancing a platter of filled glasses and a bottle of Perrier for two quick laps around the block. Competition is fierce as the waiters sprint for the coveted title and a gift certificate to the luxurious French Laundry- rewards enough to make me rethink my career path!  Vive la France!
